Professional Tax in Maharashtra refers to a state-level tax levied on individuals engaged in professions, trades, callings, and employment within the state. It is governed by the Maharashtra State Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings, and Employments Act, 1975.
As per the latest revision in Maharashtra professional tax 2023 - 2024, below are the revised rate of professional tax:
For men the following rates are applicable:
Salary amount | Professional tax rate |
Salary up to Rs 7500 | 0 |
Salary between Rs 7501 to Rs 10,000 | 175 |
Salary of Rs 10,001 and above | Rs 200 |
Note: For a salary of Rs. 10,001 and above, Rs. 300 is applicable only in February.
For women the following rates are applicable:
Salary amount | Professional tax rate |
Salary up to Rs 25,000 | 0 |
Salary between Rs 25,001 and above | 200 |
Note: For a salary of Rs 25,001 and above, Rs. 300 is applicable only in February.
